Hello, and welcome to Diagram Club number #045.

This week: There’s another cartoon Spot the difference, one of the largest hurdles you will have ever seen, and a photograph annotated to show some of the places (and you really wouldn't want to miss this) where I have sat down and had lunch.

But first (if I may): Thank you to Diagram Club Paid members, who make this newsletter possible. Upgrading to Paid also comes with other misc benefits, and this button lets you find out more, and join. Thank you!

Cycling cartoon of the week

I had a comment this week on Facebook accusing me of not drawing cartoons about cyclists slowing down for pedestrians. The comment was really quite rudely phrased, so I feel absolutely no obligation to act on it. That said, I became aware that this cartoon, which was one of the original publicity drawings for ‘From A to B’, didn’t appear on all social platforms at the time, and I can’t remember whether I’ve included it in this newsletter [Someone: build this man a database - Editor]. So I thought it was worth reposting.

In summary: Give other pedestrians and horses space, as you’d like drivers to give you space. As I hope you know by now, I’m entirely pro-cycling. But I’m not going to excuse bad behaviour, and, speaking as a part-time pedestrian, there is quite a bit of it about, sadly. So here’s the message: If you’re on a bike you can’t just zoom past pedestrians without slowing down. Ring a bell, say good morning and thank you, slow right down. It’s quite straightforward.

Additional diagram of the week

From the ‘drawn but I don’t think I ever actually posted, did I?’ pile.

Whatever your hurdle is: I hope you can get over / under / around / out of it.

It’s about time we had another Spot the difference, don’t you think?

Can you spot the ten (10) differences between these two garage scenes?

A link to the answers will appear, just when you least expect it, later on in this newsletter.

There’s some pretty good news for Diagram Club Paid users, who will discover that they can download a printable pdf version of this image. Details below the Orange Line, below.

Annotated photograph of the week

Places I’ve eaten my lunch at the Barbican.

[Notes. I worked in London for a couple of days a week for a number of years (depending on how you define them) until [Checks own LinkedIn] 2015. A lot of cartoon ideas have been formulated in the Barbican. I was there this week, and took this photograph, which I later annotated.]

Miscellaneous minor updates and admin announcements

The folding camper

It is still for sale, as we haven’t advertised it publicly. For details see Diagram Club no #043. So if you thought you’d missed your chance you haven’t missed your chance.

Cafe anecdote

One of the many plus points about doing my work in a wildlife cafe is that sometimes there is wildlife. Earlier this week I heard a ‘woop-woop-woop’ coming from the other room, and sure enough there was an actual bird in the cafe. It turned out [culmination of anecdote] it was member of staff (and what is known as the dream team) Fred, woop-woop-wooping and flapping his wings to encourage the bird to reverse. Short story kept short: Everyone, including the bird, was fine, and the day continued without incident. [End of anecdote]

[‘The Cafe’ is Essex Wildlife Trust Langdon Nature Discovery Park. Please support your local Wildlife Trust or other nature reserve. They probably do events and all sorts of things.]

Technical query for any expert who might be reading

Anyone know why search no longer works on my Mac? I mean finding files through Finder. I’ve done an online search to try and diagnose the problem, but just end up more baffled. I wouldn’t ask, but being able to find images by filename is fairly key to what I do. Thank you!

Church cartoon update (feel free to skip)

For those who might be interested I have a lot more cartoons in this week’s Church Times than usual. You can see most of them here (paywall, but you get a free article or two).

On which note: my church cartoons can be found on the Facebook page, thanks to my brilliant but busy (what with one thing and another) team.

That’s about it for this week - thank you for reading. However, there’s extra content for Diagram Club Paid members below The Orange Line. This week: the printable Spot the difference, and an important survey.

See you soon for number forty six.
