Hello, it’s Diagram Club number #043, on a Monday. You’re quite right, Monday isn’t really the day this newsletter comes out, but here we are, so we’d better make the best of things.
This week: An annotated picture of a folding camper, which I just happen to be selling, and also the first in a series of climate-themed cartoons.
A tiny note. I’m afraid I’m not quite operating at 100% at the moment, and it has, if I’m to be honest, been a bit of a struggle getting a newsletter out this week. Please forgive newsletters maybe not being quite as on time, long or everything they have been. Thanks for your patience.
Just a reminder that this newsletter is made possible thanks to my wonderful Diagram Club Paid members. Paid users are the first to hear about things I’m doing, have access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content each week, and can reuse my work in non-profit ways. This button enables you to join. Thank you!
Cartoon of the week
From a little series about climate.
Originally published in the Church Times. So yes, this is part of a little series on climate topics I will be publishing here, and at some point on my website. I’ve said a little bit more about this cartoon in the section for Diagram Club Paid subscribers, below.
Goodbye to the folding camper
[A little feature in which I pretend I’m just showing a nice set of annotated pictures, but actually am trying to sell something]
I mean, some of you might like to see some annotated folding camper photo or two anyway.
So yes, this is our folding camper, which we’ve greatly enjoyed using for a number of years, but are now selling. A folding camper, for those unfamiliar with the concept, is a bit like a tent with wheels and a wardrobe, or a kind of a pop-up caravan. It hasn’t been advertised publicly yet, but I’m just seeing whether there is a friend / newsletter reader who might be interested before I do so. The model, if you’re interested, is a 1997-or-thereabouts Pennine Sterling SE. The asking price is £750, which reflects the condition, which I can say more about to anyone who would like to know more. If you might be interested or would like to come and look at it to see whether you are, in Basildon, Essex, please let me know.
[Here’s a little video of the folding camper I made in the days when I made Tiktok videos]
Miscellaneous news
I did A little bit of cycle campaigning at the weekend. It was the inaugural Kidical Mass Billericay, a 2 mile family bike ride to demonstrate that there are some of us who’d like to ride a bike in a place where, I think it’s fair to say, the car rules. It was a great success - we had (we think) about 40 to 50 people (the official counter stopped upon reaching 20 because (I quote) ‘they kept on coming’ (sorry Christine…)).
The Chinese translation of the Cycling Cartoonist is on the way, and I’ve been sent some page samples. If you’re in the market for such a volume then this will explain things:
Ecclesiastical cartoons continue on the Facebook page for my church cartoons, thanks to my excellent team. I tell you this every week, I realise.
Congratulations to long-time supporter of my work and reader of this newsletter James, who was appointed an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025. the award was for Services to Young People - his work with RAF Air Cadets as National Chaplain, since 2015. Well done James!
[I think we need to bask in the glory of any readers’ achievements - please let me know if you have done something interesting.]
And lastly, I’m posting this drawing for Steven, whose funeral it was earlier today (see Diagram Club #040). I’ve been thinking of his family and friends today.
Colour of the week (filler) and then the comments
Folding camper blue.
Thank you everyone for reading. Content continues for Diagram Club Paid members below The Orange Line. Otherwise - see you next week.
