Hello, and welcome to Diagram Club. It’s Issue #033, which doesn’t quite mark a third of the way to 100, but it’s pretty close if you’re viewing the situation with the naked eye.

This week: There is a new Household Problem! And more new paragraph breaks (that I’m told I don’t talk about enough) than ever before. And there’s BIG cafe news - for the first time in ages.

Before we start

You can join Diagram Club Paid, monthly or annually, via the medium-sized orange buttons.

Cycling cartoon of the week

This week: ‘Same ride, different reality’, drawn for the national cycling charity Cycling UK, to promote their ‘My Ride Our Right’ campaign. Very brief summary: Women make half as many trips by bike as men, and are more likely to be put off cycling by a fear of busy traffic. We need safe routes that work for women. You can read more here: Cycling UK - My Ride Our Right

I’ve written some behind-the-scenes notes about the diagram itself for Diagram Club Paid subscribers, so if you’re one of those, you’ll find that below.

Household Problem of the week

Yes, you did read that right.

Notes:

  • Most triangular drawing so far. Equilateral and everything.

  • Quick diagram.

  • Hastily wash a section of your shirt and you might get away with wearing it later on that same day without the terrible stain being noticed, especially if the venue has inadequate lighting. It all depends on the nature of the spillage, luck, etc.

Cafe News

It’s been too long since I shared cafe news, I think we’d all agree. There’s a lot I could say, but for now I have only one piece of information to impart.

I’m becoming a volunteer!

Picture in which a man, looking not unlike me, is both drawing cartoons and volunteering simultaneously. Yes, it seems far-fetched at best

Background info for those who’ve joined us recently: The Cafe, aka Essex Wildlife Trust Langdon Nature Discovery Park, is a number of minutes’ cycle ride from my house, and is where I go often to do work. A lot of the drawings you see are drawn there. It’s a very welcoming place, and I am, I think it’s fair to say, their most regular customer.

So what will I be doing volunteering-wise? Well, one thing at a time. High-level discussions are still taking place to establish the precise nature of my role, but the plan is to use my creative skills as part of it.

There’s still a little admin to be taken care of before I get started. I’ve not yet commenced my Trips, Slips and Faux-pas training, for instance. But genuinely - I’m really looking forward to being able to contribute to a place that has done so much for me.

On that note: Please support your local Wildlife Trust or other nature reserve if you have one near you.

Misc question that doesn’t really deserve a huge bold heading

Is there an archive Dave? Yes

Colour of the week (filler) and that sort of thing

Flourishing-houseplant green.

Well, we can pretty much call it a day there, I think. UNLESS you’re a Diagram Club Paid member, in which case your content continues below The Line. This week: behind-the-scenes info about the cartoon above, as mentioned, and some book news that you will not have read anywhere else.

The plan is to be back in about a week with issue #034. Speak to you then.
