Hello everyone
I know! It’s hardly any time whatsoever since the last email. But this is Launch Week, in which many of the norms of newsletter writing are entirely disregarded, so I’m sending another email as I continue to attempt to make quite some splash (graphic please).
Admin points and sundry notices
Thank you for the kind responses to newsletter #001. It is my aim to reply to all emails, but I’m aware I haven’t done so in all cases yet. Please do keep commenting and replying - it’s appreciated.
It has become apparent that a very small number of my paying subscribers, who should be able to see the Diagram Club Paid section at the end of each email, are unable to do so. This is due to errors of my own making. If you believe you should be able to see things that you can’t please let me know.
Lost property. If anyone lost, say, an umbrella or a flamboyant hat in the frenzy of the early Launch Week celebrations, please get in touch.
Cycling cartoon of the day
This is a campaigning image I did for Cycling UK in approximately 2022, slightly tweaked for them for the recent election. I wanted to start with a few of these kinds of images to paint a cycle-campaigning picture, before I get onto anything more niche. This one essentially makes the point that making cycling a safer option doesn’t just benefit ‘cyclists’, but makes life better for a wide range of people in society.
As always, lots more cartoons on the website.
Household problem of the day
My new project (continued). This week: How do I fix a stubborn tap?
This is entirely based on real-life events - I’ve asked for advice on Twitter about my taps multiple times, and people are very helpful. For those interested: I have nearly cured one bath tap (the hot), but now another (the cold) is being reluctant and generally giving me funny looks.
A reminder that Household Problems is on Instagram (12 followers - let’s see if we can get to 15) and there is a website: Household Problems.
Annotated photograph of the day
This is a picture from earlier this week in my most regular cafe, where I go to work quite a few times a week when I’m at home. It’s run by Essex Wildlife Trust, it’s about a mile from my house, and I can cycle there in about 6 minutes (longer on the way back owing to the hill). The staff are lovely, (hello!), it’s a friendly atmosphere with regulars who know each other, and there are times of the week it’s quiet and perfect for getting work done. This won’t be the last time I post about it, I’m sure.
On Mondays there’s an art group who meet, and this week they needed a model, and as my working posture is essentially sedentary I agreed to be drawn. I’ve shown Jim’s drawing of me - lovely work.
Colour of the day
Swimming pool blue
Thanks for reading, everyone. I hope you have a good August, whatever you’re doing. Additional content for Diagram Club Paid members continues below.
Planning to be back in your inbox very soon with Launch Week issue (checks notes) #003.
